Research - Human Presence Implied

Human Presence Implied – Focusing on Richard Long

Richard Long is a Photographer, Sculptor, and painter who has been said to be one of Britain most famous sculptors.

Human Presence Implied in this case means only using things from a natural setting and applying human presence. For example seeing someones footsteps on the sand but not showing anyone in it and only showing what they applied. Long works with many materials such as Stone, driftwood and mud and turns them into patterns on the ground. His work relates back to ancient times by using mostly circles, lines, crosses and spirals which are immediately noticed in his work. I really like his work because its done so well that it really doesn't look like it was done by someone.

Quote: "I think circles have belonged in some way or other to all people at all times. They are universal and timeless, like the image of a human hand. For me, that is part of their emotional power, although there is nothing symbolic or mystical in my work." —Richard Long source wikipeida

  1. Good photos, good citing your sources and good use of a quote. I do think these need more information however.
